CBP Form 5106 for Nonresident Importers
CBP Form 5106 (Create/Update Importer Identity Form) is how an importer gets its importer number. A foreign company without a U.S. tax ID receives a CBP-assigned number; your customs broker usually files it. For a nonresident corporation, entries also need a resident agent in the port state and a bond with a resident corporate surety (19 CFR 141.18).
Steps
- Choose a licensed customs broker
- Appoint a resident agent in each port state you will use
- Arrange a CBP bond with a resident corporate surety
- Your broker files CBP Form 5106 and your entries
Note
- Check the current CBP Form 5106 with your broker; this guide does not replace CBP instructions
